Casio Exilim EX-G1 is one of the slimmest and solid waterproof cameras on the market today. We wanted to see how it performed, so we tested it. Here is our review.
Futuristic designThe camera has a futuristic design with recessed controls; its body, made of a two-layer aluminum construction featuring a resin ring protecting the lens, a stainless steel outer casing and a polycarbonate cover on the right side, didn’t break when we dropped the device from a distance of 2.13 meters. It also comes with an optional attached plastic guard. As we’ve already mentioned, the Casio Exilim EX-G1 is very slim with its 154 g so we didn’t have any problem holding it or moving it around; the product’s measurements are as follows: 103.5mm x 64.2mm x 19.9mm. Other than the usual black color, the device also comes in charcoal grey and bright red. The inner core is made of shock-absorbing waterproof polycarbonate plastic.
2.5-inch LCD displayWhat we didn’t like during our test were the controls: they were two small und uncomfortable to touch. The power, Best Shot and shutter release button sit on the top. The other controls of Casio EX-G1 are located on the right side; the center comes with a four-way directional pad, a menu, a Play button and much more. We had no problems using these keys. The menu button, while easy to navigate through, didn’t offer fast access to shooting settings; instead we pressed the Set button on the right of the screen. The camera’s 2.5-inch LCD with 230K dots of resolution was rather small when compared to other devices of its kind.

Pentax Optio WG-1 The rugged Casio Exilim G EX-G1 ($229.99, 3 stars) is thinner and lighter, but it's not as tough as the WG-1, and Canon Powershot D10 ($329.99, 4 stars) matches the ruggedness of the WG-1, but is nearly twice as thick. Available in purple or black, and more » |
