Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT3 Digital Camera With A GPS – In the category of digital cameras hardened, the FT3 is one of the most robust and watertight. Lumix DMC-FT3 surpasses its predecessor in terms of FT2 performance and functionality. Battery and SD card slot easily accessible, better performance management ISO noise, grip improved through the handle.
The Lumix DMC-FT3 is the replacement of the FT2 digital cameras. With a 12 megapixel sensor, Lumix DMC-FT3 offers not only an improved design and ergonomics but in addition brings a GPS , video recording in full HD and a target of 28 mm. Slightly longer (4 mm) and thick (2 mm) than the FT2, Lumix DMC-FT3 offers a better grip.
Panasonic also had the foresight to bring on the right side removable battery, SD card reader and HDMI output and micro power outlet protected by a single valve seal. The button layout is less frequently and judiciously. The two zoom buttons are now located at the rear of the unit while the video record button has been moved on top next to the shutter button. The GPS is based on the Navteq database that are about a million places. Our test showed it was accurate enough outdoors on a clear day.
However, in or under an overcast sky, the GPS has a harder and it may refresh the position manually. It takes 2 seconds to turn on FT3 and take its first picture. The latency of the shutter is 0.8 seconds and the time between two shots of 1.3 seconds chained. Compared to FT2, image quality is much higher with such a low light (between 100 and 400 ISO).
